All aboard for America’s Cup
Excitement is building before the America’s World Cup Series returns to Portsmouth this summer.
Sir Ben Ainslie and his team Land Rover BAR will be zipping over the waters when the second round of races is held in July.
The extravaganza is being held from Thursday July 21 to Sunday July 24. Hundreds of thousands of spectators poured into the city to watch last year’s regatta.
According to the Portsmouth News, changes this year include an expansion of the free spectator area on Southsea Common and better opportunities to see racing yachts up close as before each race they will be moored just off Southsea’s coast.
The cost of tickets for the race village and bandstand has also been cut from £45 per person to £25, with a larger capacity of up to 20,000 people.
Restrictions on food and drink have also been lifted.
Land Rover BAR will be facing France, New Zealand, Sweden, Japan and the USA over the regatta weekend.
It is part of the America’s Cup World Series presented by Louis Vuitton being held worldwide. The winner earns the right to face defending champions USA in a head-to-head showdown for the ultimate America’s Cup prize in 2017.
