Horse Guards – London
The Changing of the Guards is one of London’s top tourist attractions and known throughout the world.
The ‘mounted box men facing Whitehall either side of the main entrance’ is a practice which stretches back 350 years. The parade ground is for the Trooping of the Colour in addition to being a venue for the 2012 Olympics.
McAndrew Martin Ltd Chartered Surveyors, Architects and Engineers were appointed as supply chain partners by PriDE, acting on behalf of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO). The project brief was to provide Project Design and full Project Management Services, to facilitate stone repairs, restoration and cleaning of the external stonework at Horse Guards. The works had to be completed in time for The Queens Birthday Celebrations, The Diamond Jubilee and the 2012 London Olympics.
High quality repair and conservation works were undertaken to sympathetically maintain the Portland stone façades in readiness for The Queens Birthday Parade, The Diamond Jubilee Celebrations and the 2012 Olympics.
