Building Conservation – Park Building, Portsmouth
McAndrewMartin were commissioned to undertake a full building, structural and fittings evaluations resulting in serious stone works renovations being required.
Park Building, part of the university campus, required Portland stone restoration and slate roof recovery including a weather vane copper galleon.
During the extensive survey and investigations, McAndrewMartin found that the 2 metre high weather vane, crafted by apprentices at the turn of the 20th century, was found to be severely corroded and at risk of toppling.
McAndrewMartin developed the process of safe removal and renovation of this landmark historic feature.
Duration of project was 12 months.
