Flying high at America’s Cup extravaganza
There’s just a week to go until the launch of the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series off Portsmouth.
The four-day extravaganza is being held at Southsea from Thursday July 23 to Sunday July 26
Sir Ben Ainslie’s British team Land Rover BAR will be racing against France, New Zealand, Sweden, Japan and the USA as the highlight of the weekend.
There will be a whole host of entertainment, including a display by the Red Arrows on Friday July 26 at 12.10pm.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will give the regatta the Royal seal of approval when they visit on Sunday July 26.
One of the other high points of the event promises to be a Portsmouth Live! concert on Saturday July 25 with Spandau Ballet, Wet Wet Wet, McBusted and Carly Rae Jepsen.
The regattas are part of the America’s Cup World Series being held worldwide in the lead up to the competition’s grand final.
Each of the teams taking part in the World Series will host two regattas in 2015-2016 with the winner earning the right to face defending champions USA in a head-to-head showdown for the ultimate America’s Cup prize in 2017.
With hundreds of thousands of visitor and global media exposure, the America’s Cup should be a great boost for the Portsmouth and create a real buzz around the city.
The Portsmouth News has also launched its very own America’s Cup website to keep you up to date with all of the developments and action.
It’s a superb site and is well worth a look at http://americascup.portsmouth.co.uk.
