Good luck Team GB for ‘Super Saturday’
What are you doing this weekend? Will you be glued to your TV like much of the nation to cheer on Team GB to more glory in Rio?
Reigning Olympic heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis-Hill starts the defence of her crown today. She is joined by rising Team GB star Katarina Johnson-Thompson as they tackle the first four of the heptathlon’s seven events.
There are also Gold medal finals in archery, the women’s 10,000m, men’s team pursuit on the track as well as judo, dressage, rowing, swimming and many more…
It was equivalent weekend at London 2012 that we were all cheering on Mo Farah, Greg Rutherford and Jessica Ennis to a hat trick of Golds in an incredible hour on ‘Super Saturday’.
And this year all three are in action again tomorrow in what could be another glory night for British athletics.
It will be a late night (or early morning, come to that…) but make a note on your TV schedules if you want to stay up to watch:
• The long jump starts at 00:50 Sunday UK time
• Farah’s 10,000m follows at 01:25
• The heptathlon’s 800m finale is at 02:53.
Equally, if you’re up you might as well watch the first 100m heats at 2.35am when Usain Bolt is expected to face strong competition as he begins his campaign for his third consecutive Olympic title.
There’s plenty more excitement on Sunday too. It promises to be a great weekend – so have a ‘super Saturday’ whatever you are up to; whether it is watching the Olympics, enjoying the start of the Premier League season, soaking up the sun or getting out and about.
