New £5m cash boost for Portsmouth area
There’s been more good news for Portsmouth after the Government announced a £5m cash injection.
The new Minister for Portsmouth Matthew Hancock pledged the money for defence development on a visit to the area.
He announced the spending at Autonomous Surface Vehicles in Portchester, which builds unmanned vessels.
He said that the cash was to ensure Portsmouth was at the cutting edge of marine technology.
The boost comes after the Government recently announced that a Centre of Marine Intelligent Systems will be based at Portsdown Hill.
It comes as the Government seeks to mitigate the blow of BAE dockyard job losses and retain skills in the city.
