Our success story as investment rises
New figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) recently showed that UK economic growth in the first quarter was helped by a 5 per cent rise in business investment – the highest for two years.
It was almost double an earlier estimate of 2.7%.
The ONS has also placed the annual growth rate for the economy at 3 per cent for 2014.
We’ve been among the businesses to expand, taking on new staff and launching new divisions.
In the spring we employed Simon Lee as a graduate trainee chartered surveyor and in May we launched our land and new homes division to push forward developments across the south.
It comes as we continue to see demand rise for our services – especially for surveys as the housing market performs well.
Recent figures from the Land Registry for May 2014 showed an annual increase of 3.4 per cent to take the annual price of home in Portsmouth to £146,746.
However, the month-on-month figure, from April to May, showed a slight drop of 0.5 per cent.
So, the housing market is remaining strong but levelling out.
The ONS figures also pointed to a further strengthening of growth in the second quarter of this year, with the Bank of England forecasting a 3.4 per cent growth this year.
It also said the country’s services sector grew by 0.3 per cent in April following a rise of 0.5 per cent in March.
