Our visit to Portsmouth mosque is in the News
We recently saw the true face of Islam when we were invited to the Jami Mosque in Portsmouth.
We were among the guests along with the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth Frank Jonas and headteachers in the city.
Our managing director Bill McAndrew and director Ian Lee were among the group invited to join in the visit.
Members of the mosque wanted to share the Ramadan ceremony of Iftar Mahfil which breaks the daily fast.
They offered the invitation to show that the terror attacks in Tunisia were not what Islam stands for.
The Portsmouth News reported the visit in yesterday’s paper with a picture.
They quote Abu-Suyeb Tanzam, a member of the mosque, as saying: “We felt it was important following the attacks recently to show that we want to be united in our community.
“Ramadan is about unity and the people here are welcoming and smiling despite fasting all day.”
We were joined by the Imams at a table to eat and then watched as members started praying.
President of the mosque, Mujahid Miah, added: “Iftar Mahfil is about more than just fasting and the sharing of food.
“It’s about bringing people of all faiths and none together to trample on the misunderstandings that can cause tension and mistrust.
“A real Muslim cannot and should not kill or harm other innocent people.”
The visit was incredibly interesting and it was an honour to be invited.
As a local firm we believe it is important to be part of the community and help foster a spirit of unity.
Earlier this year, we raised more than £5,000 from a charity golf tournament in aid of Help for Heroes and Ickle Pickles.
