Project
Secure & Contemporary Reception Transformation at MCA HQ
The refurbishment of the Maritime Coastguard Agency’s headquarters in Southampton focused on modernising the main entrance and reception to improve security, functionality, and visitor experience. The scope included replacing the existing entrance and exit doors with high-performance units and installing a new revolving door to enhance accessibility and energy efficiency. Internally, the reception area was completely transformed with contemporary finishes, upgraded lighting, and improved heating and cooling systems. A bespoke reception desk was introduced alongside advanced access control measures, including speed gates, to strengthen security and streamline visitor management.
Completed in November 2020 for Mitie on behalf of the Maritime Coastguard Agency, the project demanded meticulous planning to maintain operational continuity. The closure of the main entrance posed a significant challenge, requiring the implementation of temporary pedestrian routes and clear wayfinding to ensure staff and visitors could navigate the building safely. This careful coordination allowed the works to progress without disruption to critical MCA operations, delivering a high-quality, secure, and welcoming environment.
