Royal seal of approval for £369m revamp

New contracts have recently been awarded for Buckingham Palace’s £369m M&E refurbishment programme.
Six leading firms have won the contracts to oversee the 10-year project: Arcadis, Arup, Capita, Gleeds, Mace and WSP.
According to Construction News, the work comes after a report warned that the palace faces a ‘very real danger of catastrophic failure leading to fire or flood’ because of outdated electrics, power and water systems.
Under the programme, around 161 km of electrical cabling, 32 km of heating pipework and 16 km of hot and cold water pipework are among the services that will be replaced.

We were instructed to undertake quadrennial inspections of the Palace along with other historic properties, Windsor Castle, The Tower of London and Horse Guards Parade.
