What are you up to this weekend?
It’s been another busy week at McAndrew Martin with the start of March putting a spring into everyone’s step.
We’ve continued where we left off in January and February with business increasing compared to the same time in 2015.
We’re looking forward to another good month ahead with demand for our expert surveys and wide range of property related services continuing to grow.
Househunters traditionally hit the streets in Spring, giving a bounce to the property market, although latest figures from mortgage lenders Halifax and Nationwide have shown steady demand for the start of the year too.
The Halifax said that property prices rose 9.7% compared with a year ago but were down slightly on January.
The Nationwide Building Society said house price growth remained steady.
According to the Halifax, the average home nationwide is now worth £209,495 while the Nationwide placed the figure at £196,930.
It can be confusing with all of the different house price indexes.
The Halifax and Nationwide figures are predominately based on their own mortgage lending.
The Nationwide Building Society, with a 13% share of the home loan market, uses an average value for properties after considering elements such as location and size.
Equally the Halifax, the biggest mortgage lender in the UK with 20% of the market and, uses its own home loan data.
However, figures from the Land Registry tend to be among the most accurate as they calculate the price change for properties that have sold multiple times since 1995.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures are also considered to be very reliable with a UK-wide regional breakdown drawn on data from the regulated mortgage survey by the Council of Mortgage Lenders.
Equally, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) survey of some of its members is also a credible barometer.
