RAF Leadership & Team building Day at RAF Cranwell, OASC.
McAndrew Martin was one of several companies, along with a Welsh fire service, that took advantage of the offer for Leadership and Teambuilding training by the RAF. The training took place at the Officer and Air Crew Selection Centre (OASC), RAF Cranwell, near Lincoln. Despite the distance, it proved to be worthwhile. Two of our apprentices, Josh O’Leary and Luke O’Hare, were selected to undergo the training, while Jim Green, our Client Relationship Manager, attended as an observer.
The morning session involved briefings and an aptitude test to assess rapid tracking ability, dexterity, and mental awareness. Candidates were challenged to guide a ball through a tunnel while receiving commands amid white noise and background chatter. This was followed by a briefing on the rules and safety protocols of practical command tasks. The group was divided into syndicates at this point and given a task to complete.
After lunch, the syndicates resumed the practical tasks, with each syndicate having a leader appointed from within the group. The leader was briefed on the scenario and tasked with moving the syndicate from the start to the finish line with the supplied equipment, while following safety and general rules.
Despite being at least 10 years junior compared to the rest of the group, our apprentices enjoyed the day and found it beneficial. They showed no hesitation in voicing their opinions or concerns – an impressive effort from Josh and Luke.
